Chapter Leaders:
APICS has been notified by Holmes Corporation that due to a recent state sales tax audit and subsequent review by their sales tax attorney it has been determined that they are required to file and pay sales tax on all applicable sales within each state where they are currently registered to do business.
The following states are affected: AL, AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, TX, VA, WI, and WV. It is currently anticipated that Holmes will begin charging and collecting the sales tax on or about April 1.
We are working with Holmes to determine if there are opportunities to mitigate or reduce the impact to the partners in these states. Although we do not know the final disposition of this matter, we urge all chapter presidents to make sure that they are in possession of their state tax exempt number, which may exempt them from having to pay this tax.
